Shiatsu with Richard Shaw

Richard Shaw MSc, DipESS, MCThA

I trained at the European Shiatsu School and am a member of the Complementary Therapists Association. I run a private practice and work for mental health charities and community groups in Islington and Camden. I can also facilitate classes in shiatsu and Qi Gong. You can visit my website at: http://www.shi-atsu.co.uk

I work holistically, adapting treatments to suit the individual client. I incorporate techniques from disciplines such as Tuina (traditional Chinese massage), Sotai (facilitated stretching), Indian head massage and Qi Gong.

I have also worked for many years as an editor and writer and I have contributed to numerous books and articles on health and complementary medicine, as well as distance learning modules for the Royal College of Nursing.

Shiatsu is a physical therapy that aims to bring the mind, body and emotions into a state of harmony. It uses a variety of techniques such as stretching, gentle rocking and pressure. Shiatsu combines the theory of traditional Chinese medicine with modern principles of massage and physiotherapy.

Shiatsu frees tensions and strengthens weaknesses to rebalance the body’s energy. By releasing toxins from the muscles and nervous system and stimulating the circulation, hormone and immune systems, it enhances resistance to ill health.

Receiving a treatment can feel like a combination of massage, yoga and meditation. Shiatsu helps you to relax deeply and become more aware of your own body - you can discover where you are holding tension and learn how to cope with stress.
