Centenary Season
Triratna was founded by Urgyen Sangharakshita, who was born 26th August 1925, so in 2025 we're marking his 100th birth anniversary.
All centenary events are by donation, just turn up.
Film Night: Great Ocean - Abiding
Wed 23 Jul | 6.45 - 9.30pm
A special screening of the final part of Suryaprabha's film series exploring the ‘the strange and wonderful life of Sangharakshita’ through the story of his life and the accounts of his friends.
Keynote Talk: Bringing Buddhism to the West
Sat 9 Aug | 10.30am - 12.30pm (during the Saturday class)
Ksantikara joins the Saturday Class to give a special keynote exploring Sangharakshita’s unique role in bringing the Dharma to the West. His teachings span the breadth and depth of the Buddhist tradition, offering a complete vision of human life by emphasizing the decisive importance of commitment, the value of spiritual friendship, the role of imagination, and the need for a ‘new society’ to support spiritual aspirations and ideals.
Having a Teacher: Joys & Difficulties
Sat 2 Aug | 1.15 - 3.30pm
Looking up to those with more experience opens our heart to gratitude and respect but we also need to cultivate mature and balanced relationships with our ‘teachers’. This event includes space to consider controversies and mistakes in Triratna’s early history.
Led by Ratnaprabha, Karunagita & Darsavini.
Birth Anniversary Celebration
Tue 26 Aug | 7.15 - 9.30pm (shared meal from 6.15pm)
Celebrate Sangharakshita’s 100th birthday with the first of 108 annual pujas — a ritual that will continue long after your (current) lifetime! Though we can no longer meet him in person, we can still get to know him. We’ll hear excerpts from his memoirs and poetry, and share in a symposium of personal reflections on people’s connection with him.
The evening begins with a shared meal at 6.15pm. The Centre team will cook a big vat of rice — bring a dish to go on top, or extras for the side.
Led by Ksantikara.
Please note
The day retreat planned for Sunday 10 August has been cancelled to make it easier for people to attend the keynote talk on 9 August and the main Birth Anniversary Celebration on 26 August.
