The NLBC is a welcoming and friendly space for you to explore Buddhist practices, for people to meditate together, and for anything that helps human well-being. You can learn about Buddhism, you can learn meditation and mindfulness, you can meet like-minded people, you can join bodywork classes.

The Centre is housed in a lovely building on the main Holloway Road with great transport links. There’s a big bookshop in the comfortable reception area, three shrine rooms, a bodywork studio, two treatment rooms, and meeting rooms.

If you start to come regularly, you will find yourself part of an open and diverse community. Some are ordained Buddhists with several decades of deep experience, others are on the Buddhist path, but many are just here to explore, and to meet people with shared values of awareness and compassion. We welcome people of any ethnicity, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation to come and explore with us what the teachings of the Buddha have to offer in our modern lives.

We are an independent charity (the Nalanda Trust) led by members of the Triratna Buddhist Order, a growing Sangha of around 2,500 fully committed Buddhists, founded in London by Urgyen Sangharakshita in 1968, and associated with scores of Buddhist centres all over the world. Triratna learns from all the schools of Buddhism, integrating its approaches with the best of human culture. It is attempting to develop a spiritual tradition that can speak to us in the modern world.

Safeguarding and ethics

As an expression of Buddhist ethical precepts, we are committed to ensuring that everyone who comes to our centre is safe, and that those involved in running the centre or leading classes always act kindly, appropriately and with integrity. These safeguarding and ethical policies explain our commitment in more detail. Please click HERE to be re-directed to our policies page.

The spirit of generosity

In the Buddhist spirit of generosity - known as ‘dana’ - most of our Buddhism and meditation teachers give their time and enthusiasm for free, as do our many volunteers and anyone who contributes to a class. We aim to make our activities as accessible as we can, but it’s costly to maintain our facilities and to give our team basic financial support. We do therefore charge for some events, but we try to keep the rates as affordable as possible. And we invite everyone who attends any of our events to join with the spirit of generosity of our teachers by donating what they can to help us stay afloat. We also welcome regular standing orders so please do consider filling in a standing order and gift aid form here, or make a single donation below. Many thanks!
