Course description

Do you ever feel like you know what’s “right”, yet your daily life doesn't always reflect it? Most of us recoil at being told what to do, preferring to think we have it all figured out. Luckily, Buddhist ethics aren't about conforming to conventions, following rules, or "being good" to earn points.

The core insight of Buddhism is simple: our state of mind isn't fixed. We are constantly shaping it through our actions of body, speech, and mind. Buddhist ethics empower us to shape our future and change our consciousness.

You will receive Subhadramati’s book Not About Being Good as part of the course.

Over six weeks, we will explore :

  • Practical Wisdom: Why practising Buddhist ethics is fundamentally good for you.

  • For the Benefit of All: How personal practice benefits our friends, family, and the world.

  • The Buddhist Precepts: Deceptively simple ancient guidelines for a life well-lived.

  • A Clear Conscience: The Buddhist approach to guilt, remorse, and forgiveness.

  • The Ultimate Freedom: How ethics lead us to the Enlightened Mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Here are some top tips for taking part:

Come every week– whether you feel like it or not. If you look for motivation before you do something, you reverse your motivation; mostly you only want to do something when you’re actually doing it.

Come early– so you can relax before the class.

Do your ‘home practice’ every day– then each week you’ll be in a small group to check in about how that went.

  • Often people need to miss a session or two, so feel free to book anyway. We'll send follow-up emails which will recap some of the content you missed.

If you are going to miss a class– Just get in touch so that we know and do come back the following week.
